Google Invests $168 million into Solar Power Tower Plant

Google have continued their apparent quest to get a finger in every industry pie going as they have invested over £100 million into a specialised facility that will become the world’s first solar power tower plant.

The facility is spread across 3,600 acres of land in the Mojave Desert and, according to gizmag, “the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System (ISEGS) will boast 173,000 heliostats that will concentrate the sun’s rays onto a solar tower standing approximately 450 feet (137 m) tall.”

Construction on the plant began back in October of last year and is intended to be finished in 2013, after which is will generate around 392 MW of solar energy.
